Portraits begin before the painting.

A portrait starts with time spent together.

When possible, I meet each subject in a place that matters to them. We talk, walk, and make photographs without rushing. Those conversations become part of the painting.

Back in the studio I develop studies and composition sketches before beginning the watercolor. Throughout the process I edit away anything that distracts from the person in front of me.

My goal is not just to make a likeness. I want the finished painting to feel like you're sharing the room with that person.

I accept commissions for individuals, families, children, and pets.
